Kate McGinigle is a board-certified vascular surgeon-scientist. She received her Medical Degree and Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina. She went on to complete a residency in general surgery at UNC and then a 2-year fellowship in vascular surgery at Duke University.
Since joining the Department of Surgery at UNC in 2015, she has focused her clinical and research work on patients with peripheral artery disease and complications of diabetes. She has been the principal investigator on multiple funded research projects and has also been the site PI for multiple clinical trials. She has had leadership roles in multiple professional organizations including the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Society, the Vascular Quality Initiative Patient Safety Organization, the American Limb Preservation Society, and the International Society for Women Vascular Surgeons. She serves on the editorial board of Surgery and the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
