Matthew J. Dougherty, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Surgery on the University of Pennslylvania faculty, working at Pennsylvania Hospital since 1992. Dr. Dougherty is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of LaSalle College High School, Dr. Dougherty received his bachelors degree at the University of Virginia in 1980. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1984, and completed a Surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Dougherty served and additonal year as Chief Resident of the East Surgical Service, before completing a Vascular Surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 1992. Dr. Dougherty is a Distinguished Member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, belongs to numerous other vascular and surgical societies, and has authored and co-authored numerous journal publications and chapters, given many regional and national presentations, and edited two books. Dr. Dougherty serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, and is an invited reviewer for several other journals.
